1. Anuradapura:
Declared by the UNESCO as a world heritage city, Anuradapura is regarded as Sri Lanka’s first known kingdom and the capital of the island for many centuries. Being well known for its cultural and religious value the city attracts many local and foreign visitors who love to explore the ancient history of Sri Lanka.
3. Bentota:
About 65 kilometers (km) south of Colombo, Bentota is located on the country’s south-western coast. One of the main draws for tourists is the variety of water sports. Jet skiing is a well-liked water sport that visitors choose to partake in while in Bentota, and there are tube rides and banana rides for people of all ages.
4. Ella:
It is located 1,041 metres (3,415 feet) above sea level and about 200 kilometers (120 miles) east of Colombo. The area has a rich bio-diversity, dense with numerous varieties of flora and fauna. Hills covered in cloud forests and tea plantations surround Ella. The town has a cooler climate than surrounding lowlands, due to its elevation. The Ella Gap allows views across the southern plains of Sri Lanka.
7. Kalpitiya:
Between the deep Puttalam lagoon to the east and the Indian Ocean is the peninsula known as Kalpitiya. The 48 km long and 6–8 km wide Kalpitiya peninsula. Kalpitiya offers the chance to see dolphins, sperm whales, and the Bar Reef, Sri Lanka’s longest coral reef (307km) that can be reached after an hour-long boat ride from Kalpitiya.
8. Kandy:
A religious and beautiful city in Sri Lanka, Kandy is the location of the Sacred Tooth Relic. It ranks behind Colombo as the largest city in the nation. The city is located on the Kandy plateau, which crosses a region of tropical plantations, primarily tea plantations. Esala Perahera, an annual procession that lasts more than 10 days, is famous in Kandy.
9. Negombo:
Negombo, on the island’s west coast and 37 kilometers from Colombo, is a popular tourist destination with easy access to and from the main airport. One of the best beaches on the west coast can be found here; it stretches from the town’s northern edge and along the hotel strip, drawing travelers on their way to or from the airport. In addition, the city provides a wide range of lodging options, including hotels, hostels, and restaurants, to suit both budget-conscious and luxury travelers.
10. Nuwara Eliya:
The Central Province’s city in the hills is well known for its comfortable weather. One of the most beautiful and memorable travel experiences is taking the train to Nuwara Eliya. It is the highest city in Sri Lanka, rising 1,890 meters above sea level.
11. Pasikudah:
Pasikudah is a coastal resort town located about 35 Km northwest of Batticaloa. It is known to have one of the longest stretches of shallow coastlines in the world.
12. Polonnaruwa:
Is 216 kilometers away from Colombo. In terms of ancient cultural heritage, Polonnaruwa ranks second only to the ancient city of Anuradhapura during its brief history of two centuries in Sri Lanka. Today, Polonnaruwa is a display of the magnificent ancient Sri Lankan architecture from the 12th century AD, which was interwoven with numerous Buddhist monasteries and monuments constructed by King Parakramabahu.
